      Jibri Douglas, MPH Health Management and Policy ’17, spent her summer researching the relationship between the National Institutes of Health and the sexual and gender minority (SGM/LGBT) community. A Health Management and Policy summer fellowship provided the opportunity for Douglas to take on a self-directed project looking at research on sexual and gender minority health.

      Alexis Roth, PhD, MPH, assistant professor of Community Health and Prevention in the Dornsife School of Public Health at 91制片厂, has received the American Sexually Transmitted Diseases Association’s Career Development Award. The $100,000 grant runs from October 2016 through September 2018 and was announced at the National STD Prevention Conference in Atlanta.

      Prescription drug overdose prevention efforts across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are lacking in counties with high overdose rates, according to a new report released by 91制片厂 Dornsife School of Public Health researchers as part of a statewide workgroup studying prescription drug misuses and abuse prevention initiatives.

      New faculty and the 20th incoming class of students were celebrated and received their school pins at Dornsife’s annual welcoming ceremony on September 15. The incoming professors bring new expertise in structural determinants of health, occupational health exposures, intimate partner violence, and health disparities, as well as in novel statistical, geo-spatial and econometric techniques.

      As ART becomes more available in Sub-Saharan African countries with high HIV burden, an unexpected effect has emerged: since people living with HIV who are on treatment tend to look healthier and more sexually appealing, community members are concerned that ART recipients will be able to spread their HIV infection more than when they appeared ill, even when transmission while on ART is almost impossible.

      The study was co-authored by 91制片厂’s Astha Ramaiya, DrPH Community Health and Prevention ’18, and published in Social Science and Medicine.
