Drexel’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design is pleased to announce that the keynote speaker for our 2025 Commencement ceremony will be Grammy Award-winning musician, producer, and composer James Poyser.

The Westphal Dean’s Office of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (IDEA), in partnership with the Westphal Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council (DEIC), are pleased to announce the recipients of its inaugural IDEA-Development, Education, and Cultivation (DEC) Mini-grants. These small seed grants, in amounts between $500-1000 support projects that develop, educate, and cultivate inclusion, diversity, equity, and anti-racism in accordance with the College’s Strategic Plan.

In 2021, the Academy of Natural Sciences of 91ÖÆƬ³§ (ANS) launched the Museum Innovation Fund to provide seed funding to Drexel faculty and students for projects that promote conception and rapid prototyping of innovative approaches to museum learning and engagement.

In summer term of 2021, eight undergraduate students from Westphal College of Media Arts & Design participated in Drexel’s STAR (Students Tackling Advanced Research) Scholars Program through the Pennoni Honors College. The STAR Scholars Program enables a cohort of highly motivated early undergraduate students to engage in faculty-mentored research, scholarship, or creative work. This year’s STAR Scholars Summer Showcase featured in-person and virtual presentations from participating students. 

Evolving to align with the needs of one of the fastest-growing industries in the world, Drexel Westphal is excited to introduce the undergraduate degree in User Experience (UX) & Interaction Design (IxD). Formerly titled Interactive Digital Media, the User Experience & Interaction Design (UXID) program will continue to offer a cutting-edge curriculum that emphasizes creativity, versatility, and an interdisciplinary skillset. With this program name change, we hope to reflect current industry nomenclature and reach students who are hungry for an immersive and interdisciplinary education. 

The latest collaboration in a 14-year relationship between Drexel’s Department of Digital Media and the Independence Seaport Museum is an animation recreating the perilous 1921 journey of the USS Olympia.

Join us for Drexel Digital Media's 2021 Showcase on Sunday, May 23 at 1:00 p.m. ET/10:00 a.m. PT streaming via YouTube Live! The stream features live presentations by 13 senior project teams from the Animation & Visual Effects, Game Design & Production, and Interactive Digital Media programs, along with members from the College of Computing and Informatics.

Several students from Drexel’s Digital Media Department had research projects completed in Drexel’s new accepted into the (NCUR), set to take place virtually from April 12-14, 2021.

The faculty of the Department of Digital Media have adopted a number of innovative strategies to move their curriculum online. A tech-savvy bunch, their biggest challenge is less about adapting to technology shifts and more about supporting student needs and limitations of the remote environment.

Out of more than 2,000 submissions from 42 countries, 91ÖÆƬ³§’s Interactive Digital Media Program has won three awards in the 2019 Muse Creative/Muse Design Awards competition. 

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced its nominees for the 91st Academy Awards on Tuesday, and four of the nominated films feature the work of Drexel alumni from the Department of Digital Media: Ralph Breaks the Internet, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Ready Player One, and Avengers: Infinity War. 2019 is the seventh consecutive year that films nominated in the Visual Effects or Animated Feature Film category have featured the work of Westphal Digital Media graduates.

BioDesign Challenge is a special topics course that will be offered this winter term and is open to all undergraduate and graduate students. Participants will work towards a coveted spot in the annual , an annual competition held in conjunction with the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).

The Digital Media’s new minor in will introduce experiences that are fully interactive, allowing students to manipulate and navigate digital media through the immersive experience, rather than view it passively.
