Joining us from William & Mary College in Williamsburg, VA, Francis has already brought energy and ideas into our community as we strengthen a culture of belonging.

In summer term of 2021, eight undergraduate students from Westphal College of Media Arts & Design participated in Drexel’s STAR (Students Tackling Advanced Research) Scholars Program through the Pennoni Honors College. The STAR Scholars Program enables a cohort of highly motivated early undergraduate students to engage in faculty-mentored research, scholarship, or creative work. This year’s STAR Scholars Summer Showcase featured in-person and virtual presentations from participating students.

Each year, Drexel Magazine recognizes some of the most promising, entrepreneurial, creative, and inspiring alumni under the age of 40. These alumni launched new companies in the middle of an historic downturn, reimagined how they delivered on their talents, and, collectively, adapted their professional environments to the unique challenges of 2020. This year, seven Westphal College of Media Arts & Design alumni were highlighted as nominees of the Class of 2021.

Graphic Design students, Ashley Wiederspahn, Matthew Barnett, and Anna Cushing received recognition for their designs, from packaging and branding to editorial design. 

Westphal College alumna Courtney Sabo (Graphic Design ’15) is recognized in Forbes’   in the Consumer Technology category. Courtney Sabo is cofounder of Kopa, a long-term rental platform for finding roommates and apartments.

The Department of Design includes Westphal’s programs in Fashion Design(undergraduate and graduate), Design & Merchandising (D&M), Retail & Merchandising, Graphic Design, Photography, and Product Design. The Department is making good use of its strong relationships with industry and other Drexel departments to implement exciting solutions to current limitations while finding ways to stay connected to each other and their students.

Shushi Yoshinaga, Associate Professor in the Graphic Design program, led a group of 91ÖÆƬ³§ and Tamagawa University students in a joint study, “Aging, Technology and Japanese Culture” to research the challenging issues of an aging society in Japan.

Sabrina Tran, a Graphic Design major from the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design teamed up with LeBow College of Business junior Ben Red to win the 2nd annual Brand X Challenge experience design competition in 2019.

Two Graphic Design seniors are named among Graphic Design USA's (GDUSA) Students to Watch 2019, a roundup list of students who are ready to burst onto the design scene. Congratulations to Amanda Christian and Kaci Kwiatek.

The end of spring term is rapidly approaching, and for many students, this is the busiest time of year. It’s impossible not to feel enormous pride in the creative and accomplished work that is the culmination of years of hard work and study. This year's Senior Show Exhibitions of Work include Fashion Design, Digital Media, Film & Video, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Photography, Design & Merchandising and Product Design.

Do you have children, siblings, friends or peers interested in attending Westphal? Our Summer Programs are now enrolling High School students who want to get a head start on college studies.

BioDesign Challenge is a special topics course that will be offered this winter term and is open to all undergraduate and graduate students. Participants will work towards a coveted spot in the annual , an annual competition held in conjunction with the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).

Graphic Design Professor Eric Karnes sat down with us for the third edition of Office Hours, a recurring column interviewing our leading faculty. 

Jack Cliggett, Graphic Design Professor, was a founding faculty member of our outstanding Graphic Design program, contributing to the creation of the program’s curriculum at its conception and serving as Program Director.

The Graphic Design Senior Show is Monday, June 12. There will be a private industry reception from 6-7PM followed by a reception for friends, family, alumni, and the general public from 7-9PM in the Leonard Pearlstein Gallery (3401 Filbert St.).  

Romanticism, mythological creatures, the Taj Mahal, and engineered infrastructure were the inspiration for some of our student designers whose collections will be featured in Fashion '17, Drexel University’s Annual Fashion Show, on Saturday, June 10 at the Urban Outfitters Corporate Headquarters in Philadelphia's Navy Yard (5000 South Broad St., Building 543). The first show will be held at 4PM with a ticket price of $30. The second show will be held at 8PM and will be followed by a wine and cheese reception with a ticket price of $60. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased . 

On Thursday, January 27 will open to a reception from 4-6PM in the Rincliffe Gallery and Anthony J. Drexel Picture Gallery, located on the third floor of Main Building at 3141 Chestnut Street.

As part of 91ÖÆƬ³§’s 125th anniversary, two of our Graphic Design seniors created logos that will be used in the year’s upcoming events.
