The Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design is excited to introduce our inaugural Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Francis Tanglao Aguas. Joining us from William & Mary College in Williamsburg, VA, Francis has already brought energy and ideas into our community as we strengthen a culture of belonging.

Screenwriting & Playwriting senior Chloe Tolderlund won 2nd place in the Philadelphia Museum of Art's Collab Student Competition for Groei, a seating system made of repeating elements.

In 2021, the Academy of Natural Sciences of 91��Ƭ�� (ANS) launched the Museum Innovation Fund to provide seed funding to Drexel faculty and students for projects that promote conception and rapid prototyping of innovative approaches to museum learning and engagement.

In summer term of 2021, eight undergraduate students from Westphal College of Media Arts & Design participated in Drexel’s STAR (Students Tackling Advanced Research) Scholars Program through the Pennoni Honors College. The STAR Scholars Program enables a cohort of highly motivated early undergraduate students to engage in faculty-mentored research, scholarship, or creative work. This year’s STAR Scholars Summer Showcase featured in-person and virtual presentations from participating students.

Associate Professor of Product Design Mike Glaser was granted a US patent for his work on ClikBrik, a drummer-specific metronome.

On Friday, March 5, 2021, Product Design seniors Brandon Bauer, BreAnna Bechtold, Emma Dietz, Charlotte Guedalia, and Tim Stolwyk presented their work alongside students from Philadelphia University and Thomas Jefferson University at IDSA Philly’s Student Merit Awards.

The Department of Design includes Westphal’s programs in Fashion Design(undergraduate and graduate), Design & Merchandising (D&M), Retail & Merchandising, Graphic Design, Photography, and Product Design. The Department is making good use of its strong relationships with industry and other Drexel departments to implement exciting solutions to current limitations while finding ways to stay connected to each other and their students.

Chloe Tolderlund, a sophomore in the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design's Product Design program won the NYCxDesign Student Design Award at the 2019 International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF).

Product Design student Danielle Banner had a budding idea. She set out to create a product that would connect people to nature in an age when many find it difficult to enjoy themselves outdoors because of work and other commitments during the day.

The end of spring term is rapidly approaching, and for many students, this is the busiest time of year. It’s impossible not to feel enormous pride in the creative and accomplished work that is the culmination of years of hard work and study. This year's Senior Show Exhibitions of Work include Fashion Design, Digital Media, Film & Video, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Photography, Design & Merchandising and Product Design.

Lily McClure, a senior in the Product Design program, was named one of the top five design students in America by the Industrial Design Society of America.

Interdisciplinary learning is a key component to our curriculum at Westphal. In the winter term students will have the opportunity to learn from a product designer and visual artists duo in Making Things Move; explore the physicality of virtual reality in Haptic Interfaces for Virtual Reality; develop wearable technology in Pattern Material and Form; or get lost in the oddities of 1950s television programming in Supernatural Drama.  Click to read full descriptions about these engaging course offerings. 

BioDesign Challenge is a special topics course that will be offered this winter term and is open to all undergraduate and graduate students. Participants will work towards a coveted spot in the annual , an annual competition held in conjunction with the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).

is an artist, writer, and technologist who creates electronic textiles and interactive art at her studio in Seattle, WA. As an innovator, Maggie believes we can solve the complex problems facing today’s world through innovation, collaboration, and interdisciplinary thinking.

The symposium features a day of free programming that explores the emerging field growing out of collaborations between artists, designers and interdisciplinary collaborators who push the boundaries of traditional disciplines unearthing solutions to practical and aesthetic problems through the mastery of new technologies and intensive research.��

Five of our talented undergraduate students had their designs on display at the Philadelphia Museum of Art as part of the annual Collab Student Design Competition.��

Our has forged a new partnership with the international, high-end audio manufacturer, , to develop new products, prototypes and ways to extend their product line by expanding awareness and use by design professionals and consumers.

The prestigious London-based fashion trade publication, ,��recently released their rankings and have our as #3 in the United States and #11 in the world. , which produces USA Today’s College Guide, new rankings have Westphal as #5 nationally out of 223 schools in the category of Best Design and Applied Arts Schools.

In April, our Product Design Program was ranked one of the top 30 Industrial Design Degrees by College Values Online, and the ranking spoke specifically to the lasting value of acquiring this Westphal Degree.��
