Through their poster and platform presentations, graduate and medical students, residents, fellows and postdoctoral trainees presented topics ranging from clinical case studies to research technology.

  More than 40 91��Ƭ�� MD program students participated in a fall 2024 showcase of community outreach projects and best practices. The weekend conference, held annually by the Society of Student-Run Free Clinics (SSRFC), took place in Philadelphia this year at 91��Ƭ��.

  St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children has received commitments for a second round of financial support from some of Philadelphia’s most prominent health care and higher education organizations. The funding, totaling $30 million over the next two years, will support St. Christopher's vital role in maintaining the health and well-being of the region's children and their families.

  Last week, SEPTA’s SCOPE program welcomed its largest cohort of 91��Ƭ�� students, with 21 new participants taking part in a comprehensive orientation. The students, some with EMT and paramedic training, will provide invaluable support to SCOPE outreach workers as they engage with the vulnerable population on the transit system.

  Todd Strochlic, VMD, PhD, has been appointed as assistant dean of curricular integration, 91��Ƭ��. He will oversee the complex management of the medical education curriculum with a focus on Year 2 and will play a key role in ensuring alignment and integration across the Philadelphia and West Reading campuses.

  Haviva Goldman, PhD, has been appointed as assistant dean, Phase 1 curriculum at 91��Ƭ��. Dr. Goldman will oversee the organization, management and implementation of the Phase 1 curriculum for the MD program. She will work closely with the senior associate dean of Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) to ensure that the curriculum is delivered effectively and meets the needs of our students.

  Earlier this month, the Lower Merion Historical Society in Bala Cynwyd, Pa., celebrated early advocates for women in medicine, dedicating a Pennsylvania Historical Marker to three trailblazing activists. Two of the three women were affiliated with Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania, a 91��Ƭ�� legacy institution.

The discovery marks the first time that targeting a key metabolic enzyme in cancer cells in the brain has shrunk tumors in a mouse model.

The graduating class included 95 ELAM fellows and 45 fellows from the Executive Leadership in Health Care (ELH) track, from a total of 92 institutions. They join a diverse alumnae community of more than 1,400 highly accomplished leaders that represent 300 medical, dental, public health and pharmacy schools from around the world.

  After a distinguished 33-year career at the College of Medicine and its predecessor institutions, Itzhak Fischer, PhD, is stepping down as chair of the Department of Neurobiology & Anatomy on July 1, 2024, though he will stay on as a tenured professor in the department. Dr. Fischer joined the faculty of the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1991 from Harvard Medical School.

  Last semester, the College of Medicine’s Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Professional Studies donated more than 60 microscopes and over 100 boxes of histology slides to the Total Experience Learning (TExpL) program at Albright College in Reading, Pa. TExpL instructors have already begun taking the compound microscopes to Reading School District classrooms to introduce fourth grade students to a new scientific tool.

  Roughly a quarter of U.S. adults who’ve tested positive for COVID-19 report having experienced, or are currently experiencing, three or more months of COVID symptoms, such as dizziness, headache, brain fog, and/or other symptoms, according to October 2023 data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Household Pulse Survey. The condition is known as Post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 or “long COVID.” And among hospitalized COVID-19 patients, that number increases to roughly half.

Dr. Reginato was appointed interim chair of biochemistry and molecular biology in the summer of 2021, and has been a faculty member of the College of Medicine since 2004.
