Learning Through the Arts Panel

, director of the Expressive and Creative Interaction Technologies (ExCITe) Center, associate professor of  and assistant dean of engineering for , will serve as a panelist at  on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Mitchell Auditorium. This talk focuses on using the arts to foster learning, motivation and success for urban students and will include a special performance by DANCO 3. A panel of invited artists and scholars will also discuss and showcase the significance of the arts to education.

“Learning Through the Arts” is a part of 91制片厂 School of Education’s new series on Critical Conversations in Urban Education (CCUE). The series provides professional development that augments understanding of critical factors in preparing urban educators and that transforms learning outcomes for low income and diverse students. Additionally, the series provides opportunities to secure resources to support the School of Education’s related Urban Education initiatives.

Other speakers include Mr. Donald T. Lunsford, featured dancer and guest artist for PHILADANCO, as well as choreographer for 91制片厂; Dr. Miriam Giguere, associate professor and director of 91制片厂’s dance program; and Ms. Megan Giampietro, art educator in urban schools who developed the course Expressive Arts K through 4th Grade, which is a core-required course for Drexel’s Goodwin College of Education’s K-4th grade certification program for undergraduate and graduate students and many more.
