A group of 91��Ƭ�� students and faculty, in collaboration with Opera Philadelphia, have come up with a new way to capture the beauty of a song. They created a device that translates the pitch and volume of a singer’s performance into a work of visual art. The device will take center stage at Vox Ex Machina, Opera Philadelphia’s 50th Anniversary Gala, on Sept. 13, creating a one-of-a-kind concert experience for the audience.

Now in its fourth year, the Young Dragons Summer STEAM program will feature six weeks of education activities focused on the creative intersections of science, technology, engineering arts, athletics and mathematics. The free day camp, offered through a partnership between The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation and 91��Ƭ��’s ExCITe Center and Lindy Center for Civic Engagement, is annually attended by 100 middle school students in the West Philadelphia Promise Zone neighborhood.

The creativity of local students will be on full display this summer as the 29-story LED array of Brandywine Realty Trust’s Cira Centre office building is once again converted into the world’s largest video game display. Students and teachers from K-12 schools across the Greater Philadelphia region have been working with experts in 91��Ƭ��’s Entrepreneurial Game Studio to design and code new games for the building — those games will debut on the evening of June 10 as part of a celebration for the opening of the city’s newest green space, Drexel Square. The opening of Drexel Square park marks the first completed project of the Schuylkill Yards development, a 14-acre master-planned neighborhood in University City being developed by Brandywine Realty Trust on land owned by and in coordination with Drexel.

The Department of Defense’s effort to bring America to the forefront of textile technology manufacturing and innovation is gaining a strategic foothold in the region. 91��Ƭ��, in collaboration with DoD-supported Advanced Functional Fabrics of America (AFFOA), is establishing a statewide center that will help companies, entrepreneurs and innovators take their advanced-textile concepts from prototype to product and prepare America’s workforce for the quality jobs this growing sector is generating. Called the “Pennsylvania Fabric Discovery Center,” this statewide resource is the first hub located outside of AFFOA’s home state of Massachusetts. It will be part of a national network intended to lower the barrier to commercialization for functional fabrics, resulting in advanced textiles that do things like see, hear, sense, communicate, generate and store energy.
