For the 25th anniversary of its landmark Kaczmarczik Lecture, Drexel’s Department of Physics went big — hosting viral sensation Tatiana Erukhimova, PhD for a record number of attendees.  

Texas A&M professor Tatiana Erukhimova, PhD, has become a viral sensation thanks to her energetic demonstrations of physics experiments on social media. The Department of Physics is pleased to welcome Erukhimova as the keynote speaker at the 2026 Kaczmarczik Lecture, where will showcase some of her most exciting physics demonstrations for the Drexel community.

The Department of Physics and the Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships recently hosted an Astronomy Night for the entire Drexel community.

A groundbreaking new study led by Drexel physics PhD student Riya Shah provides insight into the origins of neutrinos, the nearly massless subatomic particles that may help explain how galaxies are formed and evolve.

Associate Teaching Professor of Physics Christina Love, PhD, is one of only 15 scholars across the country featured in Diverse: Issues In Higher Education’s 2025 class of Emerging Scholars.

The Department of Energy Office of Science Graduate Student Research program prepares doctoral candidates to enter careers that advance discovery and innovation in science and technology.

Last year, volunteers from the public helped the IceCube Neutrino Observatory at the South Pole classify signals from neutrinos — tiny, ghostlike particles from outer space. Starting today, IceCube is once again calling on volunteers to help "Name that Neutrino," now with many improvements and more videos.

Professor of Physics and Science Education Eric Brewe, PhD, was recently appointed to the role of Associate Dean of Graduate Education in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Congratulations to the College of Arts and Sciences faculty and students who were honored at the 11th annual Celebrating Drexel Authors event. Hosted by the 91��Ƭ�� Libraries and the Office of the Provost, this event recognized members of the Drexel community who authored or edited books or highly-cited journal articles in 2022. 

With five different specialties—astrophysics, biophysics, particle physics, condensed matter and physics education research—Drexel’s physics PhD program gives students the flexibility to pursue unique, individualized research based on their own personal interests and career goals.����

To address the critical shortage of skilled workers in quantum technology and quantum information, 91��Ƭ�� will offer a new post-baccalaureate certificate in this area. Beginning fall 2021, the Department of Physics will accept applicants who hold bachelor's degrees in physics, chemistry, materials science and engineering, or electrical and computer engineering, and offer them opportunities to learn the fundamentals of quantum technology and quantum information. The aim is to provide a strong foundation in this emerging area, with a focus on the foundations of quantum physics, technological advances on the quantum level, and real-world applications.

On Tuesday, June 8, 2021, the College of Arts and Sciences will celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2021 with a virtual commencement. The ceremony will be live-streamed from Mandell Theater, where a small party of dignitaries and speakers will gather.

Zee Hakimoglu’s first laboratory was a rock under a makeshift fort that she and her sisters built alongside a small creek at her family’s home in New Jersey. Hakimoglu, then 11 or 12 years old, spent her days and evenings at the water’s edge, studying the spiders and wondering about the constellations. After graduating with her bachelor’s degree in physics from California State College, Sonoma, and her master’s in physics from Drexel, Hakimoglu accepted an associate engineering position at aerospace and defense giant Lockheed Martin, in their Silicon Valley office.

Several Drexel Physics alumni recently received Graduate Research Fellowships from the (NSF). The purpose of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program is to help ensure the vitality and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce of the United States. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) or in STEM education.
