They created a device that translates the pitch and volume of a singer鈥檚 performance into a work of visual art. The device will take center stage at Vox Ex Machina, Opera Philadelphia鈥檚 50th Anniversary Gala, on Sept. 13, creating a one-of-a-kind concert experience for the audience.

Set in a rural village of far western Nepal, the story is a first-person VR experience, in which the viewer embodies Priya, a 13-year-old village girl who dreams of becoming a singer. Two days before she is set to participate in a prestigious singing contest, she gets her first period - and must navigate her culture's menstrual taboo.

      Nevaeh Hearn (Fashion Industry & Merchandising ’25) is a Top Five Finalist for the 2025 NRF Foundation Next Generation Scholarship. The competition will culminate in New York on January 12, 2025 at the NRF Foundation Honors, with a top scholarship prize of $25,000. Nevaeh spoke with Alyssa Johnson (Graphic Design ‘27) about her journey to the finals, her passion for adaptive fashion and her hopes for a future career in retail.
