Fraternity and Sorority Housing Policies
Furniture
Bedroom furnishings may be provided in Drexel-managed properties. Where provided, University-furnished bedrooms include a twin XL bed, a dresser or wardrobe, a desk, and a desk chair. All University-provided furniture must remain in the assigned student rooms. Organizations may add supplemental furniture in accordance with applicable University policies and safety requirements. Questions regarding furniture in your chapter house should be directed to housing@drexel.edu.
Air Conditioning Units
Housing and Residence Life will provide air conditioning (A/C) units in all student bedrooms during the cooling season (Drexel-managed properties only).
- Students who require an A/C unit year-round should contact Disability Services at 215.895.1401 or email disability@drexel.edu
A/C units are not provided for common areas. Personally owned or organization-purchased A/C units may be installed upon request through the University work order system.
Rosters
Rosters of students who complete a Fraternity/Sorority housing application and agreement are emailed to each organization. House managers can contact housing@drexel.edu if they need an updated roster.
Room Changes
Housing and Residence Life (HRL) allows the organization to assign and alter room assignments to members who have successfully completed a housing application before the beginning of the term session, so long as they inform Housing and Residence Life of the change prior to the start of the term session. Once the term has begun, students requesting a room change will need to speak with their House Manager and the Coordinator for Fraternity/Sorority and Graduate Housing, or a designated HRL staff member, to obtain approval for the room change. If the room change is approved, the student will need to report to the Front Desk of Van Rensselaer Hall to complete their room change paperwork and exchange their keys. Students may not swap keys among themselves.
Keys
Each resident is issued a room key for their assigned bedroom. Residents are responsible for maintaining possession of their key and following University procedures for its use and return.
Move-in/Move-out
Specific guidelines for moving in and moving out must be followed. Failure to adhere to the Key Pick-Up/Move-In instructions will result in you not receiving your key and not being able to move in. If personal items are moved into the space before the room condition is officially documented, you will be held responsible for any damages present, including those that may have existed prior to your arrival.
- Keys for fraternity and sorority housing must be picked up at the front desk of Van Rensselaer Hall, located at 3320 Powelton Avenue, during the designated move-in period.
- Prior to moving in any belongings, residents are responsible for reviewing and completing the Room Condition Report (RCR) to document the condition of the space at the time of occupancy.
- Keys must be returned to the front desk of Van Rensselaer Hall during the move-out process.
- Detailed instructions regarding move-in and move-out procedures will be sent to your Drexel email address.
- For additional information and updates, please visit the Move-in/Move-out Process.
Occupancy Example
The Alpha Beta Zeta house at 203 N. 34th Street has the following occupancy requirements:
| Summer | 9 |
| Fall | 13 |
| Winter | 13 |
| Spring | 13 |
| Total | 48 |
| Max per term: | 15 |
In this example, Alpha Beta Zeta has to have 48 residents by the end of the spring term. If they only have 46, they will receive an invoice for two empty spots.
Alpha Beta Zeta could have 12 in the fall (one short), then have 14 in the winter to make up for the fall term shortage. However, they can't go above 15 in any given term.
