This Is Not the Usual Externship

The law school is backed by crafting real-world learning experiences through the co-op program. The law co-op program is different than a standard internship or externship.

• Placements available for all law students. Apply for an existing position by participating in the law school’s matching process that leverages students’ interests and strengths or work with the co-op program director to create your own.
• More than 100 co-op partners in law firms, corporate legal departments, government agencies, courts and public interest organizations.
• A part-time or intensive experience for significant course credit, seven (7) or ten (10) credits, respectively, per semester.
• Satisfies the professional practice graduation requirement, and for concentrators, the experiential learning requirement of the concentration. 
• Opportunity to stay local or take experience abroad or out of state.
• Support, mentoring and coaching by experienced field supervisors and law faculty members.
• Structure and law faculty oversight to ensure a meaningful experience.

In addition to helping gain experience in legal practice, a co-op placement helps students forge relationships with some of the most experienced and successful professionals in the industry. There’s no better way to make connections to develop a professional network.
