Tips for a Smooth Transition when Leaving Drexel
When you leave the University, eventually you must also relinquish most or all of your email and accounts services. Setting up and transferring emails to a new account can be time consuming; allow enough time to complete this process by planning ahead!
Obtain a New Email Service Provider
When your Drexel account is closed, you'll most likely need a new email service provider. You can use another email account that you already have set up or create a new one. If you have an Internet Service Provider (ISP) at home (Verizon, Comcast, AOL, etc.), it probably provides one or more email account with its service. There are also a number of free internet email services such , , and .
Notify Correspondents of Your New Email Address
After your Drexel accounts are closed, your @drexel.edu email addresses will stop working and any new email received will be returned to sender as undeliverable.
Copy Messages You Wish to Keep (Students Only)
There are a few different ways to retrieve your mail from the Drexel mail server.
- Option 1: If you are using Outlook.com or a similar free service as your new email provider, your Drexel account to your Outlook.com account, and move messages you wish to keep in bulk.
- Option 2: Before your account is closed, sign in to your Office 365 email at , and forward out messages you wish to keep to another personal email account. This method works best if you only have a few messages you wish to save.
