      The dream of Drexel associate professor Frank Lee, PhD, that came to fruition in the form of a 29-story video game 鈥 Pong 鈥 played on the north facade of Brandywine Realty Tusts鈥檚 Cira Centre is now a world record. Guinness World Records officially recognized the event, which was held on April 19 and 24 as part of Philly Tech Week, as the 鈥渓argest architectural videogame display.鈥

      Over the summer, Dr. Wilder and I [Jamie Leidwinger] have set up camp in 91制片厂鈥檚 Expressive and Creative Interactive Technologies (ExCITe) Center in Philadelphia to work on the Isomer Project: a digital humanities research project aimed at teaching computers to listen to music sensitively. Our goals for the summer are to develop both quantitative and qualitative aspects to Isomer鈥檚 ability to listen and identify descriptors for music.

      Dr. Andrew McPherson (inventor of the Magnetic Resonator Piano), has launched a successful Kickstarter project for TouchKeys, sensors for musical keyboards that turn every key into a touchpad controller. Andrew began work on the TouchKeys project during his post-doctoral fellowship at Drexel in the Music & Entertainment Technology Laboratory (MET-lab) as part of our efforts to enhance the expressive capabilities of musical instruments.

      During it's seventh year, the cost-free music technology program for high school students called Summer Music Technology ran for the first time at the ExCITe Center. Over the week, students learned about the science and technology behind digital music; and this year, a visitor from the U.S. Department of Education came by to observe the program.

In Philly judges were Franklin Institute Chief Astronomer Derrick Pitts, NASA Deputy CIO Deborah Diaz, and City of Philadelphia Chief Data Officer Mark Headd, who awarded prizes at the end of the event.

      The  hosted a unique jazz concert held in the Bossone Research Center’s Mitchell Auditorium. This event allowed the audience to experience the science behind the music via an interactive smartphone app, as well as insight into the powerful connection music has in the structure and function of the brain presented by Dr. Aniruddh Patel, Senior Fellow in Theoretical Neurobiology from the Neurosciences Institute.
