This camp will introduce students with no or limited previous programming experience to bioinformatics concepts and command line tools. For the time during which you take the class, you will be enrolled as a non-matriculated graduate student at 91ÖÆƬ³§. The course is available to students currently enrolled as seniors in the undergraduate program, students in the graduate programs, or those who are working professionals. In this course, students will learn and experience:

• How to install bioinformatics tools and use them through the command line

• Exposure to different fields within bioinformatics

• Strategies for using available tools to answer different bioinformatics questions

• Basic plotting and data analysis with "R"

• Learn from selected experts about bioinformatics projects

The class is a remote synchronous class.

Faculty

Naomi G. Wilson, PhD, received her PhD in Computational and Systems Biology from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO, in 2023. She currently works as a Bioinformatician at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).

Tuition

Fees are approximately $1,400 for tuition. The workshop runs for 5 weeks, every Monday and Wednesday, from 5-6 pm.

The credit associated with the class can be applied to the Drexel Bioinformatics Graduate Certificate, or any MS degree offered by the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems. This includes our new MS degree in Bioinformatics which combines modules in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Drug Discovery, Neurotechnology and Machine Learning/AI.

5. Under "Academic Area of Interest," choose “The School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems” and then in the program field, choose “Non-Matriculated – School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems"

6. Choose "Summer' under "Term you Plan to Enroll"

7. Choose "Part-Time" under "Full-Time/Part-Time Status"

8. Follow the directions about entering current or previous institutions and emailing unofficial transcripts to enroll@drexel.edu and disregard the application essay and CV information (click "Continue").

9. Answer "Disclosures Questions"

10. Certify application and submit!
