Como parte de su iniciativa “Nuestro Planeta, Nuestra Salud”, el Wellcome Trust aporta 12 millones de dólares a la red de investigadores dirigida por Ana Diez Roux, Decana de la Escuela de Salud Pública de Drexel. El objetivo del proyecto es explorar el impacto de la urbanización y las políticas urbanas en la sostenibilidad de la salud y el medio ambiente en las ciudades de América Latina y estudiar cómo lo aprendido en esas ciudades  se puede aplicar a contextos urbanos de todo el mundo.

Nearly 30 participants from diverse scientific backgrounds – physicians, social scientists, geographers, engineers, urban planners, architects, epidemiologists –  attended the second meeting of the Network for Urban Health in Latin America and the Caribbean. The network was launched in Philadelphia in September of 2015 in the context of the Drexel Dornsife School of Public Health . The second meeting was held March 7 and 8 at the foothills of the Andes mountains in Santiago, Chile.

To extend the reach and impact of successful approaches that have improved public health from Colombia to Chile, Dornsife Dean Ana Diez Roux convened an exploratory meeting of Latin American leaders from academia, urban design, public policy, government and urban health.
