      91制片厂 has named Yi Deng, PhD, dean of its College of Computing & Informatics. Deng comes to Drexel after a seven-year tenure as dean of the College of Computing and Informatics at the University of North Carolina 鈥 Charlotte where his leadership contributed to dramatic growth in enrollment and research funding. Deng takes the helm of one of the nation鈥檚 oldest recognized institutions of computing and informatics studies, whose programs have consistently ranked among the best in preparing students for jobs in these rapidly expanding fields.

      The bounce of a ball, the jingle of a bell and the roar of the crowd 鈥 these are the sounds of goalball, the Paralympic sport of champions. Introduced to the world in the 1976 Summer Paralympics in Toronto, goalball is the first sport created for athletes with a visual impairment. Thirty years later, a group of 91制片厂 students are turning goalball into a video game that uses auditory and tactile feedback to capture the excitement and intensity of the sport.

      The U.S. Department of Defense has tapped 91制片厂 as a key leader in the creation of a $75 million national research institute that will support American textile manufacturers in bringing sophisticated new materials and textiles to the marketplace. The institute, called Advanced Functional Fabrics of America, will be a national manufacturing resource center for industry and government to draw on academic expertise in new fibers and textiles. The result will be fabrics engineered to see, hear, sense and communicate; serving an array of industries including aerospace, apparel, architecture and health.

Drexel Autism Institute are trying making it easier for behavioral health professionals in the classroom to stick to their plans and understand how well they鈥檙e working. Their solution: an information tracking system called Lilypad helps behavioral specialists take notes in real time and track students' progress 鈥 even in chaotic classroom environments.

While the Food and Drug Administration has proposed a ban on the sales of e-cigarettes to people under 18, as we are beginning to understand the health effects of the substitute to smoking, a recent study by researchers at 91制片厂 and the University of Southern California suggests that e-cigarette marketing on social media is about as containable as second-hand smoke.
